Prelude – “O for a Thousand Tongues” arr. Keveren – Melanie Manges

Welcome to Worship – Charles Gullion

Gathering Song “Holy Ground”

We are standing on holy ground,
And I know that there are angels all around. Let us praise Jesus now;
We are standing in his presence on holy ground. (Repeat)

Call to Worship – (inspired by Matthew 5, written by Brian McLaren & Rob Bell) – Charles Gullion

The poor, and those in solidarity with them –
God is on your side.
Those who mourn and feel grief about the state of the world –
God is on your side.
The non-violent, gentle and humble –
God is on your side.
Those who hunger and thirst for the common good –
God is on your side.
The merciful and compassionate –
God is on your side.
Those characterized by sincerity, kindness and generosity –
God is on your side.
Those who work for peace and reconciliation –
God is on your side.
Those who keep seeking justice –
God is on your side.
Those who stand for justice and truth as the prophets did,
who refuse to be quiet even when slandered,
misrepresented, threatened, imprisoned or harmed –
God is on your side!

Hymn of Faith – “O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing””

(Verse 1) O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer’s praise,
The glories of my God and King,
The triumphs of his grace!
(Verse 3) Jesus! The name that calms my fears, that bids our sorrows cease,
‘tis music in the sinner’s ears,
‘tis life and health and peace.
(Verse 5) To God all glory, praise, and love be now and ever given
By saints below and saints above,
The Church in earth and heaven.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord’s Prayer Rev. Hood

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Sermon – Happy? Or Blessed? – Rev. Hood

Hymn of Hope – “Blessed Assurance”

(Verse 1) Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God.
Born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.
(Refrain) This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
(Verse 3) Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with his goodness, lost in his love.
(Refrain) This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

Offering Rev. Hood

Almighty God, giver of every good and perfect gift,
Teach us to give to you all that we have and all that we are,
That we might praise you not with our words only,
But with our whole lives. Amen.
