About this Sermon |

Luke 5:1-11
In Luke chapter 5, we find the power of the Holy Spirit at work through Jesus once again, this time manifesting itself in an abundant catch of fish. How do we see the Holy Spirit at work today, and what does this passage teach us about what that might look like?

Welcome to Worship – Len Wilson

Gathering Song “Be Still, for the Spirit of the Lord” – Worship Team

Be still, for the Spirit of the Lord, the Holy One is here.
Come, bow before him now, with reverence and with fear.
In him no sin is found, we stand on holy ground.
Be still, for the Spirit of the Lord, the Holy One, is here.

Call to Worship* – Len Wilson

The invitation is given to every person by Jesus Christ:
“Come to me! Follow me! Be my disciples!”
We come to this place, to this time, at the invitation of Jesus Christ.
In the name of Christ,
we accept the invitation to discipleship.
In the name of Christ,
as his disciples, we worship and praise God.
In the midst of a world where cruelty abounds,
we proclaim the God of Compassion.
In the midst of despair that threatens
to swallow up whole lives, whole peoples,
we proclaim the God of Hope.
In the midst of indifference and apathy,
we proclaim the God of Love.
Come, let us worship together
and share our witness of God’s living presence in the world.

Hymn of Praise – “Come Christians, Join to Sing”

(Verse 1) Come, Christians, join to sing, Alleluia! Amen!
Loud praise to Christ our King; Alleluia! Amen!
Let all, with heart and voice, before his throne rejoice;
Praise is his gracious choice: Alleluia! Amen!
(Verse 2) Come, lift your hearts on high, Alleluia! Amen!
Let praises fill the sky; Alleluia! Amen!
Christ is our Guide and Friend; to us he’ll condescend;
His love shall never end: Alleluia! Amen!

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord’s Prayer Rev. Hood

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
 as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

New Testament Reading – Luke 5:1-11 – Rev. Hood

Sermon – An Abundant Catch – Rev. Hood

Hymn of Discipleship – “Jesus Calls Us o’er the Tumult”

(Verse 1) Jesus calls us o’er the tumult of our life’s wild restless sea;
Day by day his sweet voice soundeth, saying “Christian, follow me.”
(Verse 2) Jesus calls us from the worship of the vain world’s golden store,
From each idol that would keep us, saying, “Christian, love me more.”
(Verse 4) Jesus calls us by thy mercies, Savior, may we hear thy call,
Give our hearts to thine obedience, serve and love thee best of all.

Offering Rev. Hood

Almighty God, giver of every good and perfect gift,
Teach us to give to you all that we have and all that we are,
That we might praise you not with our words only,
But with our whole lives. Amen.

Offertory – “Maestoso in Ab” Franckr – Melanie Manges, organ
