About this Sermon |
In Matthew 13, we find The Parable of the Sower. In this parable, Jesus is communicating to us through the everyday tasks of the common person. Parables help us understand ideas by expressing them in concrete and routine tasks. Although we no longer go out and scatter seed as the wind blows, there are comparisons that can be made in the act of organic farming. In this service, we will explore the abundance that God has in store for us when we not only listen, but also seek to understand God’s message for our lives.

Still you’re there right beside me.
And nothing will I fear as long as you are near.
Please be near me to the end.

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
(Verse 2) I will not forget your love for me,
and yet my heart forever is wandering.
Jesus, be my guide and hold me to your side;
And I will love you to the end.

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
(05:10) Call to Worship – written by Christine Longhurst
O God,
We gather together in Your presence with expectation,
hungry for an encounter with You,
eager to hear Your Word.
Open our eyes and ears to the presence of Your Holy Spirit.
May the seeds of Your Word scattered among us this morning
fall on fertile soil.
May they take root in our hearts and lives,
and produce an abundant harvest
of good words and deeds.
We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ,
our teacher and our Lord.
Amen.

(11:28) Pastoral Prayer & The Lord’s Prayer – Ryon Herin
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
(15:46) Scripture Reading – Matthew 13:1-23
(19:41) Sermon – “Reaping What is Sown” – Ryon Herin
(35:26) Hymn of Hope – “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come” #721
- Come, ye thankful people come; raise the song of harvest home.
All is safely gathered in ere the winter storms begin.
God, our maker, does provide for our wants to be supplied;
Come to God’s own temple, come, raise the song of harvest home. - All the world is God’s own field, fruit unto his praise to yield,
Wheat and tares together sown, unto joy or sorrows grown.
First, the blade, and then the ear, then the full corn shall appear,
Lord of harvest, grant that we wholesome grain and pure may be.
