Worship with us on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. Eastern in-person or online!

About this Sermon |

On the day of Pentecost, the arrival of the Holy Spirit impacted the disciples and the observers. Peter was empowered to tell the Good News- all of it. The good, the bad, and the ugly. The ultimate response of the crowd is not what we typically think of on Pentecost Sunday, but their reaction is instructive to us: what should we do? What should we do whenever we learn of our own complicity in events in the world around us?

Gathering Song – “Lord, Listen to Your Children Praying”  #489

Lord, listen to your children praying,
Lord, send your Spirit in this place;
Lord, listen to your children praying,
Send us love, send us power, send us grace. (repeat)

Call to Worshipwritten by Gord Waldie

The Spirit is here among us
within us, around us, between us.
The Spirit is here to strengthen us
bringing courage, bringing conviction.
The Spirit is here to move us,
making us sing and praise.
The Spirit is here.

May we feel the Spirit as we gather (virtually).
May we be fed by her fiery strength.
May we be emboldened by her powerful wind.

We gather in the Spirit’s arms to be nurtured as we worship.
And may our worship fill us with the Spirit
as we go back out into our daily lives.

Hymn of Adoration “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!” (verses 1 & 2) #136

    1. Holy, holy, holy! Lord God almighty!
      Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee.
      Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!
      God in three persons, blessed Trinity.
    2. Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee,
      Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
      Cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
      Which wert and art, and evermore shalt be.

Scripture Reading – Acts 2:1-18

Invitation to Prayer

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord’s Prayer Rev. Hood

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Scripture Reading Acts 2:37-42

  2. We praise thee, O God, for thy Spirit of light,
    Who has shown us our Savior and scattered our night.

    Hallelujah! Thine the glory; revive us again.
  1. Revive us again; fill each heart with thy love;
